Resource usage monitoring is key to successful website management.
Being able to track used/available server resources will help you plan your future website needs more adequately.
Through the Account Usage sidebar in the Hepsia Control Panel, you can monitor current resource usage levels.
Now the usage levels of performance-critical resources like backup space and database storage space will be brought to your attention every time you log in (in case you have reached the respective quota limits).
What are the new resource usage alerts all about?
Websites can be thought of as living organisms, so providing a favorable environment for them to ‘grow’ is key to ensuring their ‘health’.
Thanks to the Account Usage sidebar, you can keep track of all the resources and features that ‘feed’ your web presence with the ‘nutrients’ it needs to stay ‘live and kicking’.
These include backup space, disk space, mail storage space, MySQL/PgSQL database storage space, etc.
However, if you fail to keep tabs on the sidebar-included resource usage metrics, you might miss out on performance alerts that could cost you unexpected service interruptions.
To help enforce user attention towards these alerts, we’ve introduced popup messages that will appear once the respective resource-demanding user has logged into their Control Panel.
Here are the main scenarios where an urgent action on the account owner’s part is required:
- an exceeded backup storage space quota – the amount of backup space allocated to the given account has been used up, meaning that the respective user cannot store any more data on our backup servers;
- an exceeded disk storage space quota – the amount of disk space allocated to the given account has been exhausted; insufficient disk space slows down sites and prevents their growth;
- an exceeded maximum number of MySQL/PgSQL databases – the client has reached the predetermined maximum number of allowed databases and cannot initiate a new database-driven project;
- an exceeded MySQL/PgSQL database storage space quota – the existing databases cannot store more information, which prevents the user from adding more content to their sites and projects;
- an exceeded mail storage space quota – the available mail storage space has been used up and the user cannot receive any more emails;
Once they’ve seen a message alert, the user will have two options to choose from:
- to click on the ‘Remind me later’ button – this action will hide the notification for a period of 30 days;
- to click on the ‘Hide notification’ button – the user won’t see the notification on future logins;
To resolve the case, the user can remove an unnecessary database or free up some backup space, for example.
If the resources have been deliberately exceeded, the user can simply top up their current allowance.
They can order the respective service as an upgrade using the ‘Add or upgrade services’ option in the upper-right corner of the Control Panel’s sidebar.
